Sticking with the theme of Spring ahead of my next market in Bures, which is happening alongside Bures Open Gardens 🌱🌸👩‍🌾, I got out my dapping block and made these lovely little concave flowers on drop earrings 🤩

Apologies the filming of this doesn’t show more of the journey to completion! I was enjoying making so much I forgot to film chunks of this 😂 but anywayyyy… This lovely little Ruby pendant has come out so interestingly! The rose-cut Ruby stone itself is quite flat for a cabachon, so this fancy bezel wire bent over the front of it in a way I wasn’t planning, but honestly absolutely love 🤩 one of those happy coincidences!

Mid-make bench state 🙃 For those that don’t know, I’m a part-time silversmith, and my full time job at the moment is actually in Project Management. It has been an unbelievably hectic start to the year, so last night I needed the intricacy of jewellery making to help focus my scattered brain… today, my patience is at 0 and I would very likely damage anything I touched! Opal is such a soft stone, coming in at a measly 6 on the MOHs hardness scale (the universal qualitative ordinal scale, from 1 to 10, that we use to understand a stones hardness) with stones like Topaz, Amethyst and of course Diamond ranking above it, and Turquoise, Peal and Coral below.
.
Such a shame to have broken it at point of setting, and the colour shift from clear to yellow was lovely too… However! I coincidentally had another Opal I could pop in its place 🥰
.
I’ll show more of the making of this pendant in another reel, I just think it’s important for everyone to know that A) we all make mistakes and B) I’m too heavy handed for Opal really 😂

Hello there social media world 👋 apologies for falling off the face of the earth - sometimes my brain says ‘no, nope, no social media for you’ as my mental health needs a break (the song on this reel is ✨ very ✨ appropriate 😂)

… but, I’m back! And my first make since January is this lovely and super fun to make pair of drop earrings, with Peridot beads 💚 the main earring wire is 1mm, to ensure the integrity of the shape (plus some hammering to harden the metal too), and the wire the stones are set on is tiny little 0.5mm wire… which I find the hardest to work with! It has a mind of its own, but the holes in the stones aren’t big enough for anything else 😀
.
So anyway, I’m back, I’m making again, my mental health is back on track (or getting there, anyway) and I’m looking forward to my first market of the year in Lavenham on 5th and 6th April 🥰❤️
