This lovely dark blue Sapphire is a new gemstone to my collection, and I am so in love with the deep sea colour 🤩

Working at a smaller scale like this comes with its challenges, but the Maddy who’s started out on this journey 3 years ago could only dream of having this level of skill or working with precious gemstones like Sapphire, Ruby, Diamond and Emerald!

Turquoise Howlite - no matter what I make with this stunning stone, it always flies off the shelf (figuratively… there is no literal shelf 😂)! The combination of Turquoise and silver is one for the ages, from the ancient Egyptians to the Art Deco design movement of the 1920s/30s, it is such a timeless colour combo 🤩💙🤍

I have been drawn to Aquamarine my whole life - something about the colour, the way it catches the light, it reminds me of the way water reflects light on a sunny day and I am forever mesmerised 🤩🩵

This stunning 11ct Aquamarine is set with an open back as it doesn’t have a completely flat back (called a Cabachon cut), so it wouldn’t sit nicely in a regular closed-back setting. The addition of the beaded wire around the outside of the setting just makes me happy 🤷‍♀️😂🤩

Doing some more experimenting with these bracelets - Ive never been a huge fan of wearing chunky bangles personally, so I love the weight of these! It’s also the first one with the blue faux suede, instead of olive green or light brown, and I think it compliments the silver wonderfully 🤩💙

The making of a very lovely pair of domed silver studs, using my doming block (the strange looking metal cube with multiple indents) and the dapping punches (the tool used with a hammer, to shape the metal into the dome)… and a couple of other new pairs of studs at the end, that I didn’t film the making of 😀🙈

I love this process, and it just goes to show that even designs that are seemingly simple, take special tools and jewellery-making knowledge to be able to create!

FACT: Onyx is a variety of Chalcedony, and Green Onyx is the trade name for Chalcedony which has been dyed a deep green colour… not all gemstones come by their vibrant colour naturally - dying precious and semi precious stones to enhance their natural colouring is a rather commonplace process!

There’s been a fair few new faces around here in the last few weeks, so I thought I’d re-introduce myself 🤓

Hey - I’m Maddy, the face behind Suffolk Silversmith 👋 I’ve been fascinated by all things shiny since I was a child, and around 3 years ago I decided to try something new - silversmithing ✨
I signed up to a course and after lesson number one, I was entirely hooked 🤩 the process from design concept to completion is the most satisfying thing in the world, AND you end up with these beautiful pieces of jewellery to wear too… what could be better?!
Safe to say this new passion of mine snowballed a little over the next couple of years, filling the gap of a creative outlet I’d been searching for. I started making jewellery for family and friends, getting my first commissions etc, and in December 2023 I did my first market… a year later and I am enjoying every step of small business life!

We’re on a blue theme this month it seems… next up with have this lovely rectangular Lapis Lazuli pendant!

Personally I’m a big fan of rectangular gemstones - the juxtaposition of the unnaturally straight edges, mixed with the millions of years that went into the stones creation just fascinates me… much like when nature takes over urban environments. Something about it just captures my attention 🌿🏙️

This wasn’t what I had planned for these gemstones when I bought them, and also wasn’t the original idea when I decided to put them together… but I’m honestly really happy with the outcome! The two rose cute Rose Quartz on either side of a dusty pink Rose Quartz in the middle - such a lovely combination of pinky hues 💗🥰
